I’m so excited to share this most excellent boozy slushee drink with you guys! I was first introduced to this magical slushee at my brother’s house a few years ago. It was the perfect summer-time drink and I couldn’t get over how good it was. So ever since then, when my brother and sister-in-law come up to our lake house in the summer I request the “slushee drink”. It’s super sweet, super refreshing and depending on how much slush you add to your cup it’s super potent too!
So, here is my obligatory ingredients photo! I’m not sure why I feel these are necessary, I guess it just sets the scene for the post. That must be it. The ingredients are mostly booze, sugar and water. All the makings of the perfect summer drink if you ask me!
The first thing you’re going to need is a large freezer safe container with a lid. Like the one I have above or an empty ice-cream bucket would work nicely too. Once you’ve got your receptacle ready squeeze out both of your frozen juice concentrates into it.
Then add 1 cup of sugar and 1 cup of water to a saucepan and heat over medium heat until all the sugar is dissolved.
Once your sugar is dissolved you can add it to the frozen juice concentrates.
The best part! Pour that whole bottle of vodka in there! Getting to pour an entire bottle of vodka into something is one of those super satisfying life moments. Next, add 6 additional cups of water and stir until all combined. You want to make sure all the concentrates are dissolved and incorporated before freezing.
Like this! It will look like a big bowl of orange juice, but you will all know it’s so much more than that! Here comes the slightly painful part though. You are going to have to pop that lid on and insert this bowl of heaven into the freezer and walk away from it for about a day. Sad right?! I know it’s hard, but it will be so worth it, I promise you!
We actually made ours in the morning and it was great by the late afternoon. But really I think it’s best to make it the night before, especially if your making it for an event. Just to make sure it’s nice and solid.
Once it’s all frozen and ready, scoop your desired amount (careful, it’s strong!) into a cup and top with Fresca or mineral water. The mineral water was nice once the slushee melted slightly. It cut the sweetness down quite a bit, which is great if you don’t want it to be too sugary.
You could also customize this drink to your liking too! Just keep the base recipe the same but change-up the juice concentrates, alcohol and your mix in. For an example, you could do frozen Moscow Mules with vodka and frozen limeade topped with ginger beer. The possibilities are endless!
I highly encourage you to give it a try this summer, so good!
